Almost 500 VoluntEARS a wave – and then the wave! – During the cleaning of the sea

Disney VoluntEARS Help Clean the Coastline

Enthusiastic Disney VoluntEARS couldn't resist doing "the wave" first "of a wave" to help our oceans for offline over the weekend to clean up the coastline of Brevard County. VoluntEARS worked in collaboration with the Ocean Conservancy, Keep Brevard Beautiful, Coast Guard of the United States and the authority of Port Canaveral, as part of annual Florida Coastal Cleanup.

Disney VoluntEARS Help Clean the Coastline

I had the honour of welcoming the VoluntEARS and assist the cleanup, and I can say without hesitation that there is no better way to spend the morning after all, what is better to enjoy the natural beauty of Florida while helping to protect it?

Joined by friends and family, almost 500 VoluntEARS – a record number – contributed made making the beaches more fun and secure environment for the fauna marina for all cleaning 2500 pounds of trash on almost four kilometres of coastline near the Disney Cruise Line terminal in Port Canaveral.

Starting from January 2011, Port Canaveral is home to the ship Disney Cruise Line's latest, the dream Disney.I'm thrilled to report that, exploring a wide range of energy-saving initiatives and selecting more advanced equipment, the team Disney Cruise Line has built the most efficient ship.

Disney VoluntEARS Help Clean the Coastline

This year marks the 25th anniversary of the International Coastal Cleanup, largest volunteer event in the world to free our waterways of debris.Disney Involvement in coastal cleanup of Ocean Conservancy international extends over seven years; since 2003, more than 2,300 VoluntEARS have collected more than 28,000 pounds of trash on events of Florida Coastal Cleanup.

Trash oceans is an ongoing problem, year-round. in addition to participating in cleanup of navigation in your community (all waterways eventually lead to the sea!), you can start a "sea change" reducing waste. for example, since most collection during cleanup litterfall consists of disposable objects, can help, by choosing the reusable shopping bags, water bottles, cups of coffee and food containers.

Walt Disney World with Kids, 2001 (Special-Interest Titles)

Walt Disney World with Kids, 2001 (Special-Interest Titles)Unlike planning a family vacation to Walt Disney World, nothing about Walt Disney World with Kids: 1999 is overwhelming. It's clearly written and laid out on easy-to-read noncluttered pages. Kid-travel expert Kim Wright Wiley makes planning a Disney trip sound like fun. She's done her homework, interviewing more than 300 families and using their feedback to add lots of real-life experiences to her reviews of rides, restaurants, and hotels.

This book takes a step-by-step approach to planning, including the best times to visit, suggested lengths of stay, the pros and cons of staying on site, and things to discuss with your kids before you leave home. It also includes a chapter on how to choose the hotel that's best for your family, and another on touring plans and tips. The rest of the book is devoted to each park attraction. Helpful "ride reviews" not only describe the rides, usual wait times, and give tips, but rate each with a "scare factor" so you can gauge if your child is up to the thrill. For example, Mr. Toad's Wild Ride includes "one dark segment where Mr. Toad--briefly--goes to hell. Fine for most kids over 4."

In addition to coverage of Disney World and its latest attractions (Animal Kingdom and the Disney Cruise Line), the guide covers EPCOT, Disney-MGM Studios, Universal Studios Florida, and Sea World. --Kathryn True

New menu Debuts today at Steakhouse 55

Steakhouse 55

Don't worry, the delicious steak bone rib-eye with signature Steakhouse 55 rub yet is the menu, but is having fun with new dinner menu that starts today in Chef Jason Martin.

A significant new addition is sustainable fish, that will change according to what is available. This week is the cod nero, healthfully, chef Martin tells. next week, could be wild halibut or hiramasa from Australia, giving him the latitude to play with the menu.

Ahi smoked cold remains as an appetizer, but goes rock style popcorn shrimp, as does the grilled Portobello mushroom, the road to barbecue soy short rib glass, calamari with spicy aioli and our favorite – a dish of sausages with American Bacon (pork), salametto, sopressata, olives and cornichons, who says chef Martin is a favorite of his.

And while the famous "Wedge" and Caesar salad stay, Martin has added a Steakhouse in salad with Bacon, cucumber, tomato, red onion and smooth Tillamook Cheddar.

You can still find an array of delicious steaks of Angus, herb crusted rack of lamb, Norway lobster tail, free-range chicken and salmon. (How about a 12 ounce filet?) Two new additions are a bone dry aged New York strip steak and Kurobuta pork porterhouse with roasted apples, a strong oz 27 on bone.

Mac and cheese, that came and went from the Favorites menu guest becomes a pillar of menus, tried to move away from Potato Stack Au gratin our favorite chefs with innumerable layers of thinly sliced cooked in butter decadent and potato cream.

For sweet endings, there are two new flavours: a chocolate cake umido 24-layer with layers of milk chocolate, dark chocolate and Nutella and root beer float with a shot of root beer and a root beer-flavored baked Alaska, a new twist on a classic American. We tried the cake 24-layer and can attest that it is worth every calorie. And better with a glass of cold milk.

The "55", is in any event, an ode to 1955, the year of the opening Disneyland Park, an era when a night on the town was a fascinating experience. most servers, as well as Chef Martin, are happily and sommelier will offer a taste or two or offer a vintage from award winning selection. When he isn't too busy in the kitchen, chef Martin said that he enjoys a visit to the cellar of the restaurant with guests.

Breakfast, is also a relatively new addition to 55 Steakhouse. is a relaxing way to start the day with a latte, cappuccino – or maybe a hot chocolate with cream. specialties such as Buttermilk Pancakes with hot Bananas Foster or French toast with hot forest fruits are a lenient way to start the day, or fill Benedict of eggs, omelettes, huevos raising, or a breakfast burrito.

Splurge with 7-ounce Angus Steak and eggs or behave with granola, yoghurt and fruit or the dish with smoked salmon and Bagels.

For children, Mickey Mouse-shaped pancakes, scrambled eggs, or breakfast cereals are preferred menu.

55 Steakhouse is located at the Disneyland Hotel and is open daily for breakfast and dinner for reservations, call: 781-DINE (714).

Theme park cast member stories: at Disney World, anyone knows always score

San Francisco Giants win their first World Series Championship reminds me of one of the team's previous tours of the series, this time in 1989, when I was working on Walt Disney World's Magic Kingdom.

The Giants play the Chicago Cubs in the National League Championship series, the right to go to the world series, I drag the Cowboys as a recent Northwestern graduate, but it was a family of Giants fans who walked to the turnstiles on Pirates of the Caribbean today.

I will now take a moment to remind our younger readers on the background.Back in 1989 was the Internet has yet to become a sparkle in Tim Berners-Lee eye. mobile phones were car phones-big, bulky and spent quite simply by estate agents, doctors and lawyers. If you wanted to know a sports score, you either found a TV set and waiting for an update, or if you were a Degenerate gambler, you found a pay phone, which would let you make a call to a "976" line and fed in coins until the message has been recorded so far got to score you want.

Giants fans in my queue would have liked to have observed the game day, but they had planned their Walt Disney World visits for months. They had not expected the Giants make it this far-heck, history had taught them good October belonged to other fans teams. So the game for their missed theme park vacation.

But they still wanted to know the score. There are no televisions in the Magic Kingdom, but I assume that you have guessed that perhaps there was some pause in the premises surrounding the park so that they took. a chance and asked me.

"Hey, would you happen to know the score to the game's Giants-Cowboys, would you?"

I was about to say no, when I remembered my Disney University education: Disney cast members react never, that they are not the answer to a question. They find out.

But how do I find out the score to a baseball playoff system game, standing at the entrance to the Pirates of the Caribbean?

Like any good corporate employee, I decided to kick up this issue corporate ladder. So I called the park control.

Investment cast members don't normally, call control, unless they require an attraction. But hey, I had to get these guests answer.Disney told me I could not say no, so a person on the Disney owe me an answer.

"Hello, this is Robert on Pirates of the Caribbean. This will sound a little unusual, but I have a guest here would like to know the score of the game's Giants-Cowboys and will not tell him that I don't have an answer.Do you know where can I get to score for him? "

To this day I am so proud of the way, I formulated the issue, which I by something else I have ever written.I completely inoculated himself and put the control in a position where they could tell me to buzz.Guest had a question and Disney policy was that he will get the answer.

"Ummmm ... hold on a second."

I could tell that the operator control trying to think of a place where he could kick this question. one-minute passed, but I was not hanging up the phone. While I waited, I chatted up the Giants fans, learn about how they had planned their trip and record them, that I, as a Northwestern Grad rooting for the Cowboys. father was surprised to hear I was from Northwestern, and told me about a colleague, who had gone to NOW, too.

Finally got the control up back on the line. regardless of what he had done to find the answer, it had worked.

"The Giants won: 6-4."

I thanked up, then told the family they were ecstatic.. Father shook my hand and thanked me, as the son of the air pumped with his fist and threw down the entrance hall.

Will, of course, today you are probably just hop on your mobile phone to get a response to a question as. but should Interwebs ever fails to deliver you, it is nice to remember that for large amusement parks such as Disney's when you have a question, they are always someone around who knows the score.

Placido Domingo: Songs of Love

Placido Domingo: Songs of LoveIf the concept of an operatic tenor plying the pop charts with a broad range of songs d'amour is hardly a new one (see also Mario Lanza and Luciano Pavarotti), it's one that has enduring appeal, especially when entrusted to the talents of an established master like Placido Domingo. Culled from his albums De mi alma Latina ("From My Latin Soul") (volumes 1 and 2) and Be My Love, this collection ably finds the common ground between Hollywood and La Scala, and wends its way through a Latin-inflected romantic songbook that stretches from Rome to Rio. Whether mining the sentiments of filmdom's Francis Lai ("Love Story") and Maurice Jarre ("Somewhere My Love") or pop standards like Bert Kaempfert's "Spanish Eyes" and "Somewhere over the Rainbow," Domingo infuses them all with a grace and drama that belie the sometimes overly precious arrangements that back his efforts. The singer has aimed for timelessness here, and largely hit the mark. --Jerry McCulley

Thanksgiving weekend, the week of Washingtonâ??s birthday, the first full week of November, spring break for colleges, and the two weeks around Easter are also times when visitation can peak at 92,000 visitors in a single day. The park is far less crowded during the off season, but be advised that the parks often open late and close early during that time. You can find detailed charts and info on the best times to visit in The Unofficial Guide to Walt Disney World.

2. Shape up: Visiting Disney World requires levels of industry and stamina more often associated with running marathons. As you plan your time at Disney World, consider your physical limitations. Itâ??s exhausting to rise at dawn and run around a theme park for 8 to 12 hours day after day. Every Disney World vacation itinerary should include days when you donâ??t go to a theme park and days when you sleep in and take the morning off. Plan these to follow unusually long and arduous days.

3. Formulate your park plan: First-time visitors should see Epcot first; youâ??ll be able to enjoy it without having been preconditioned to think of Disney entertainment as solely fantasy or adventure. See Animal Kingdom second. Like Epcot, itâ??s educational, but its live animals provide a change of pace. Next, see Disneyâ??s Hollywood Studios, which helps transition from the educational Epcot and Animal Kingdom to the fanciful Magic Kingdom. Also, because DHS is smaller, you wonâ??t walk as much or stay as long. Save the Magic Kingdom for last; itâ??s the park that epitomizes Disney World for most visitors.

4. Create your touring plan: Which rides and attractions appeal most to you? What are you willing to forgo? Planning your day in advance can save you up to four hours of waiting time in line. We have developed a hierarchy of categories that will help you evaluate each ride and plan the best way to enjoy them all. For example, SUPER-HEADLINERS are the best attractions the theme park has to offer â?? and they usually have the longest lines. MINOR ATTRACTIONS are midway-type rides, small â??darkâ? rides (cars on a track, zigzagging through the dark) and walk-through attractionsâ??which can be a lot of fun, without the long wait. Remember that bigger and more elaborate doesnâ??t always mean better. See examples of touring plans (and create your own) in The Unofficial Guide to Walt Disney World.

5. Getting hungry?: There are three lessons to learn before you dine in the parks. One: Theme-park restaurants rush their customers in order to make room for the next group of diners. If you want to linger over your expensive meal, donâ??t order your entire dinner at once. Order drinks. Study the menu while you sip, then order appetizers. Tell the waiter you need more time to decide among entrees. Order your main course only after appetizers have been served. Dawdle over dessert. Two: If youâ??re dining in a theme park and cost is an issue, make lunch your main meal. Entrees are similar to those on the dinner menu, but prices are significantly lower. Three: Disney adds a surcharge of $4 per adult and $2 per child to certain popular restaurants during weeks of peak attendance, including Easter, Thanksgiving, and Christmas, and in 2009 every day from Memorial Day through July 4.
